6 Things You Now Know About Mosquitoes

Posted by AllGreen on August 24, 2017

We think about mosquitoes all summer season, but how much do we really know about them? AllGreen has experts traveling to MA homes for mosquito control every day, and we have learned a few things along the way. Of all the facts we’ve come across, here are a few of the most unusual we don’t think our customers would know.

1. There are over 2,500 species of mosquitoes

These mosquitoes not only exist in the tropical environments we always think about, but also in places as cold as the Arctic!

2. Only female mosquitoes drink blood

Males mainly drink nectar and plant juices for energy, making them vegetarians! Females drink blood to gather protein to produce eggs.

3. Mosquitoes are prehistoric

They won’t be leaving anytime soon. Mosquitoes have been around since the Jurassic period and were around three times the size they are now!

4. Mosquitoes detect humans by CO2 emissions

How do we produce CO2? Simply by breathing! Imagine holding your breath to keep the mosquitoes at bay.

5. Heartworm can be passed from mosquitoes to dogs

As if we didn’t have enough to worry about with other illnesses. Another reason to keep your pets safe from these dangerous insects!

6. Mosquitoes have short lives

Generally, they only live around two months, but that can feel like a long time for those who are defending themselves from “bites.”

If you’re sick and tired of being attacked by mosquitoes, it’s time to call AllGreen. We’re a premier mosquito control company in Massachusetts, and we would love to help you protect you, your pets, and your loved ones from mosquitoes for the rest of the summer season.
